The Omo River is considered to be one of the most remarkable trips in the world. An almost prehistoric world where deep canyons and dramatic gorges hide thundering waterfalls, and the most extravagant wildlife is matched only by the diversity of human cultures. As we paddle down the Upper Omo through dense jungle and open savannah grasslands we will be introduced to a succession of exhilarating whitewater, complemented by waterfalls and idyllic hot springs. Wildlife is abundant with antelopes, baboons and Colobus monkeys by the hundred dancing on the riverside. And at night we will camp on high sandy beaches, relaxing and listening to the melodic sound of the hippos in the river – with a nice chilled beer.   Rafting Adventure on the Omo River, Ethiopia

The Lower Omo River broadens and becomes more remote with an increase in wildlife and great views of distant mountains and open farmland. It is here that many groups of native people, distinctive with their decorative ear plugs, lip plates and bark cloth skirts make their home, including the friendly and often beckoning Mursi tribes. This is an experience that you really will treasure forever.

Fly into Addis Ababa and be met by one of our guides. Transfer to hotel. Free time to explore or relax before evening meal together

Days 4 - 11
The Upper Omo has more whitewater than the lower section, with mostly grade 2-3 rapids and a few grade 4 rapids. The river is smaller, steeper and faster than the lower river. We will float through deep gorges, open savannah grasslands and dense jungle. At night we camp in groves of trees and on high sandy beaches lulled to sleep by the sound of hippos in the river
(All meals included)

Day 12
Rendezvous with our support vehicles at Bele Bridge and load up with fresh produce
(All meals included)

Days 13 - 22
The Lower Omo sees the river larger and more remote, with the wildlife increasing in species and numbers. We will strategically navigate our way through pods of hippos in the pools, view waterbuck and hippo grazing at the river bank, glimpse the white and black flashes of Colobus monkeys swinging through the trees and hear the cries of the majestic fish eagles soaring overhead. On the last four days we begin to pass the villages of the Qwegu and Mursi tribes, the warriors and children beckoning to us from the bank. These tribal people live lives almost unchanged from their stone age past. The interaction between our group and the tribe’s people is a phenomenal experience for both parties
(All meals included)

Days 23 & 24
Four-wheel drive through Mago National Park to Jinka. Fly from Jinka to Addis Ababa in a light plane. Return to your hotel. Enjoy our post trip meal at a restaurant
(Evening meal at restaurant not included)
